About us and you!
I trained as a clinical psychologist and worked in hospital and community mental health services for 5 years.
After that I worked as a researcher at the Dementia Services Development Centre, University of Stirling on a project exploring ways of consulting people with dementia about their views of services.
I now work freelance, and combine this with some work in the NHS as a Chartered Clinical Psychologist.
My main focus is still communication with people with dementia. Recent /ongoing projects include undertaking arts activities with service users, learning about the experiences and needs of people with dementia who are also deaf , and exploring ways of communicating with people with very advanced dementia.

I was a teacher for 30 years and a writer in my spare time before taking up writing full-time in 1989. (If you would like to find out more about my non-dementia writing work see www.johnkillick.co.uk .)
I worked as a writer in residence in a prison and a hospice before beginning an 11 year stint as Writer in Residence for a private healthcare company concentrating on people with dementia living in nursing homes.
During this time I was also Writer in Residence at the Dementia Services Development Centre, University of Stirling. In 1999 I began a new project at Stirling exploring communication through the arts, a post which I still hold.
We started working together in 1997 and since then have collaborated on various projects which you can read more about elsewhere on the site.
About you!
Now you know a bit about us , and if you have read 'Our philosophy' you will know about the beliefs which underpin our work.
Now, we would like to know more about you...
One of the hopes we have for our website is that it can develop into a kind of 'meeting place' for people with similar interests and aspirations.
During our travels we have met many people who are doing inspiring work, but who do not have interested colleagues or access to others who are trying similar things. We feel strongly that support, encouragement and an exchange of ideas are essential to doing this sort of work.
Also, we would be delighted to hear from you if you are a person with dementia, or a relative or friend of someone with the condition.
Whatever your situation, if you would like to be in touch with others we invite you to email us , give us a short paragraph saying who you are and what interests you, and an email address. We can then put this information up on our
Meet new people! page, and others can contact you .
